Fountains Ways Family Autumn Pilgrimage

Fountains Ways Autumn Pilgrimage

Saturday 12th September: 10.15am – 4pm

Come and join us for our next Fountains Ways event!
This time, we’ll be walking the Curlew Way, leaving at 10.30am from St Cuthbert & St Oswald’s Church,
Winksley [HG4 3NR, pictured], and returning there by 3pm – about 7 ½ miles in total.

We’ll share in a bring-your-own picnic at St Andrew’s, Kirkby Malzeard, at 1pm, where families with children
will join us for the second leg of the journey (3 miles).

Matt Trevelyan, ‘The Curlew Man’, dressed in his amazing ‘Cathy the Curlew’ outfit [see Kate Wright’s photo],
will also take part in the children’s activities planned for this second leg of the pilgrimage.

On our return to Winksley, the home team will treat us to a cream tea, and for those who would like to stay, Matt
will give a fascinating talk on how we can best support the curlews who make this area their home.

This is also the principal weekend for the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust’s ‘Ride and Stride’ event,
which raises funds to enable grants to be offered for church repairs. Opportunities will be available on
the day to make donations for YHCT, local curlew conservation projects, and also for the ongoing development of
our own ‘Fountains Ways – Ancient Paths for Modern Pilgrims’, which has received such positive reviews regionally.
